Federal court denies El Chapo several petitions to prevent his extradition to the U.S. for drug trafficking, conspiracy, murder and money laundering charges.

Mexico City - On Wednesday, the Mexican 8th District Court for Protection and Penal system denied several petitions filed to prevent the Sinaloa Cartel druglord Joaquín Archivaldo Guzmán Loera, aka, El Chapo, 56, from being extradited to the U.S. One of the petitions to prevent an extradition order for El Chapo was filed by Guzmán Loera's sister and the other by family members shortly after being taken into custody on February 22, in Mazatlán, Sinaloa.
The decision by the court clears the way for El Chapo to get extradited once the U.S. files an extradition request. So far, also on Wednesday another Mexican federal court decided to approve a fourth charge for organized crime and possession of weapons exclusively used by the military against Guzmán Loera.
El Chapo escaped from prison in 2001 and has about 13 years left to serve on a 20 year sentence from a previous criminal conviction.
