After more than 550 same-sex marriages in the State of Wisconsin, U.S. District Judge Crabb ordered a stay on marriages.

Madison, WI - On Friday, U.S. District Judge Barbara B. Crabb issued a stay that will force state county clerks in Wisconsin to stop issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples. Only 20 of 70 counties in the state decided not to issue licenses. More than 550 same-sex couples had been married in Wisconsin since June 6, when Judge Crabb declared Wisconsin's ban on same-sex marriages unconstitutional.
Crabb didn't rule, if county clerks could issue licenses or not, but 50 counties allowed for same-sex couples to get married. Those marriages will remain in limbo until a federal appeals court decide the outcome. J.B. Van Hollen (R), the Wisconsin State Attorney General filed an appeal on Crabb's decision.
Judge Crabb's decision on Friday to stay marriages ends her case in the matter.
