Lagunillas, Guerrero, Mexico - Mexican authorities in Guerrero have confirmed through DNA tests that the body parts found in several plastic bags is Harry Devert, 32, from New York. Seven days ago, the Public Ministry police in the state of Guerrero recovered two garbage bags with decomposing body parts and a deteriorated motorcycle in a remote area in the township of Lagunillas located in the municipality of Union Isidro Montes de Oca, state of Guerrero. A tip led Mexican authorities to the scene. A joint effort by Ministry police, the military and Mexican marines in the area helped recovered several bags of a decomposed body and a motorcycle. The body parts from the bags were taken to a forensic lab in Zihuatanejo for DNA testing and the identity of the body has been confirmed.
Authorities say, that the body of missing U.S. tourist Harry Devert and his missing 2002 Kawasaki motorcycle with license plate NY67SD67 has been found. Devert was travelling through Mexico on his way to the Brazil World Cup Soccer games. He was last seen heading to the Cerró Pelon Butterfly Reserve in Zihuatanejo, Guerrero.
Evidence at the scene also suggested that the two bags containing body parts and the motorcycle were buried at another location, then exhumed and placed where they were recovered.
Devert disappeared on January 25. His mother provided a DNA sample to local Mexican authorities.
