Lev Golinkin, The Nation: The Humanitarian Crisis in Eastern Ukraine Demands Attention
Who is responsible for the 5.2 million civilians trapped in Donbass?
WNU Editor: One project that I was very proud to be a part of was a project that my father started in the 1980s to ship vital antibiotics and other pharmaceuticals to Ukraine to assist families whose children were impacted by Chernobyl. Because I was working overseas at the time he pushed me to use my contacts and to gather people and organizations together to help Ukraine ... to donate without conditions or expectations medical supplies to children who needed it and who were suffering from the aftereffects of the nuclear disaster. I am not very good at raising money and so our results were limited .... but my father's actions did save many lives .... and today .... even though this all happened over 25 years ago .... the people that my father helped are still rewarding me for my father's thoughtfulness and desire to help. Flash forward to today .... I am very proud to say that in the past week I have been successful in convincing a Canadian pharmaceutical chain to donate some of their medicines to the organization Medecins Sans Frontiere .... who will then forward it to their hospital in Donestk. It is a small thing .... but I know that it will save lives and help those who need it the most. If anyone else wants to help .... I personally prefer Medecins Sans Frontiere but the Red Cross, UNICEF, they are now all active in Ukraine, and they will appreciate your donation.
