Officer shot by wanted suspect.

West Saint Paul, Minnesota - On Wednesday, Mendota Heights Police Officer Scott Patrick, 47, was reported killed around 12:20 p.m. while making a traffic stop near Dodd Road and Smith Avenue in West Saint Paul, according to police investigators. Officer Patrick suffered a head wound and later died at a local hospital.
Officer Patrick was standing by his police SUV when Brian George Fitch Sr., 39, a wanted fugitive fired multiple shots at Patrick and fatally striking him in the head.
Police are also looking for Brian George Fitch Jr., 20, in connection with Patrick's murder. Fitch Sr. remains at large and a reward has been offered for information leading to his arrest. Police believe that Fitch Sr. who has a long criminal record killed Patrick.
Fitch Sr. missed a court date for burglary and was facing three years in prison. A warrant for his arrest was issued.

Patrick is survived by his wife and two teenage children. He is a 19-year veteran of the Mendota Heights Police Department.
The West Saint Paul Police Department, the Minnesota Bureau of Apprehension and the Saint Paul Police Department are investigating the homicide of Officer Patrick.
A candle light vigil for Officer Patrick will be held at 8:30 p.m. at Jim's Market parking lot in Mendota Heights and lights on for the Mendota Heights Police Department will be at 9:00 p.m. around the area on Wednesday night.
