Milwaukee, WI - On Tuesday, the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) reported that it has launched an internal investigation into the arrest of MCSO Captain Catherine Trimboli, 41, on last Sunday around 2:30 a.m. by a Red Wing Police Officer in Minnesota. Trimboli an 18-year veteran with the MCSO was stopped for having her tail lights out and it was learned that she was driving under the influence. At first, Trimboli refused a Field Sobriety Test (FST), but later consented after a police supervisor arrived at the scene.
Captain Trimboli who was off-duty at the time had asked the officer to let her proceed to her destination after showing her MCSO badge ID and for the officer to extend her a "professional courtesy" by letting her go. Trimboli indicated that she was just several minutes from her hotel.
The FST breathalyzer showed that she had a .14 percent alcohol concentration, twice the legal limit, according to the MCSO.
Milwaukee County Sheriff David A. Clarke Jr. says, Captain Trimboli has been relieved from her command from the Countywide Services Bureau, Training Division and placed on paid administrative leave. She was one of the first members of the OWI (Operating While Intoxicated) Task Force and teaches Standardized Field Sobriety Tests as a Master Instructor, according to the MCSO website.
Showing her MCSO credentials and "badge and asking to be given a pass aggravated this already bad situation...After the adjudication of the case in Minnesota and an internal investigation here that I have ordered, this captain will be held accountable and dealt with in an appropriate fashion," Sheriff Clarke stated on Tuesday.
