All tenants at the former Esperanza Unida building must vacate.

Milwaukee, WI - On Tuesday, the City of Milwaukee notified all the tenants of the former Esperanza Unida 611 W. National Ave. to vacate the property by 11:00 a.m on February 5. The Esperanza Unida Inc. lost ownership of the title when the city foreclosed the property for taxes owed.
Once the tenants vacate, they are not expected to re-occupy the building. The building needs more than $700K in repairs. The 611 building is accessed at $1.9M, according to court records.
The City of Milwaukee Department of City Development Deputy Director Martha L. Brown notified the current tenants, that the city made an inspection of the 611 W. National Avenue building on January 9 and resulted with the decision to close and vacate the building due to major repairs that are needed. She cited multiple repair issues as windows, electrical services including wiring, elevator repairs, air conditioning units, etc. and stated, "The City has public and human health, safety and welfare concerns regarding" the 611 building.
In other words, the building is operational, if another entity manages it. But the City doesn't want to invest funds for repairs and provide for the tenants to continue at the building at taxpayers expense.
